Point Blank director John Boorman says 'health and safety' would have ruined his films
John Boorman, after being presented with a BFI Fellowship — the highest honour that the nation’s leading film organisation can bestow — told me that he counts himself lucky that he began his career when he did.
“Could I go off with a few actors into the wilds and make a film like Deliverance now?” the 80-year-old director mused. “If I were to, I’d have the health and safety people crawling all over me, and they’d make damn sure the film turned out mind-numbingly boring and uneventful.”
Jon Voight, the star of the great 1972 film, used to say that, while it helped to save his career, the eight weeks that he spent making it with Boorman came perilously close to ending his life.
Sophie’s choice
Sophie Raworth is training for the London Marathon in deadly earnest. The BBC newsreader pitched up at the Prince’s Trust and Samsung Celebrate Success Awards in a dress that she had rolled up in her rucksack for her eight-mile morning jog to work.

20 Mar 2013“It was a bit of a military operation,” she told me. “I rolled it up and ironed it when I got to the office. You need to plan ahead.” She is raising sponsorship money for the Prince’s Trust by running her third marathon in a row, having raised £17,000 for Cancer Research and £9,000 for St John Ambulance in her previous runs.
She was coy about how generous her fellow newsreaders were being.
Ruta wants to keep her clothes on
It’s all very well for Rooney Mara to say she is not ashamed of showing off her body, but Ruta Gedmintas, left, the star of The Tudors, tells me actresses should put up some resistance when directors ask them to disrobe.
“It is something we are all up against,” she laments at the launch of the Biker Project at All Saints in Covent Garden. “But it is so much sexier to suggest things than to show them. I am not saying I would rule it out, but it would have to be really relevant to the story for me to do it.”

Would You Rather…? Tavi Gevinson’s L’Officiel Covers
Tavi Gevinson now has two L’Officiel covers under her belt. Last month, her cover for the Paris edition of the magazine’s 90th anniversary issue was released, which sees her perched on top of an oversized chair dressed as old school Tavi replete with the grey bob and giant hair accessory and, weirdly, head-to-toe Chanel. For L’Officiel’s Netherlands edition, which was also shot by the legendary Jean-Paul Goude and is possibly from the same shoot, she’s modern day Tavi with strawberry blond locks and ’90s-inspired mixed prints. Which cover do you prefer?

Would You Rather…? The Cher and Josh Reunion Edition
If 1995's Clueless left us wanting more of anything, it was Cher’s budding romance with her ex-step brother Josh, played adorably by Paul Rudd (swoon). Thus, we were beyond excited to see that Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd were together again at a screening for Rudd’s new film Our Idiot Brother. Sadly, the chances of them reuniting for a real-life romance are pretty slim as both are married with children, but they still look just as cute together now as they did just just vegging out in ’95, no?

Would You Rather…? Lindsay Lohan Vs. Pippa Middleton in Temperley
Everyone wants to be Pippa Middleton, including Lindsay Lohan, apparently. The troubled starlet, along with her mother and sister, were surprise guests at this weekend’s Kardashian-Humphries nuptials. She wore a long white dress–which isn’t scandalous, as guests were reportedly asked to wear black or white. However, it was the same Temperley London dress that Pippa Middleton wore to that other really big wedding earlier this year. The Royal Wedding’s breakout star wore a custom-made green version of the dress to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s reception back in April.
It can be hard to figure out what to wear to a wedding–especially one as high-profile as this one–and there’s nothing wrong with getting a little inspiration from someone who got it right.
But it looks, well, different on Lohan, no? Who do you think wore it better?
Would You Rather…? The Childlike Empress Vs. Kim Kardashian
We never would have pegged her for it but from the looks of her wedding photos, Kim Kardashian is a MEGA Neverending Story fan.
Okay, maybe Kim didn’t actually take inspiration from the classic 80s movie, but c’mon you have to give it to us: She’s a dead ringer for the film’s Childlike Empress.
Kim actually does a good job pulling off the look–and we have to give her kudos for straying from the traditional veil. But can she really top the “indescribably beautiful” young ruler of Fantasia, who stole our hearts (and inspired so many Halloween costumes) so long ago? You tell us.
A little Tami Stronach love (Bastian! Say my name!):

Would You Rather…? The Andrej Pejic V. ANTM‘s Fatima Siad Flower-in-Mouth Edition
Coincidence or trend? Former ANTM contestant Fatima Siad appears in Arise #13 with red rose petals in her mouth, while pretty-boy Andrej Pejic covers Follow #5 with a similar red flower in his mouth. Let’s only hope this inspires an ANTM challenge in which the contestants are forced to wear the same outfits and do the same poses as some feminine male models. You know it’s a good idea Tyra.
But back to the issue at hand – who do you think works the flowery look better: Miss Fatima or Mr. Andrej?
