Justin Bieber on Dealing With Fame: "I Know Who I Am And I'm Very Much in Control"

Life can be pretty lonely at the top. Just ask Justin Bieber, who has been making plenty of headlines this year for his outrageous pranks, outbursts on Twitter, and most recently, a little capuchin monkey.
As a result, the "Beauty and a Beat" singer tells the May issue of Teen Vogue, he's learned to keep his circle of friends small and tight-knit.

"I get good vibes from people all the time, and I probably could get along with them and be their friend, but now I just don't trust anybody," the 19-year-old pop star told the magazine. "Literally, my phone never rings. I only have, like, four people that I keep in contact with."
"I don't need a bunch of friends to make me happy," he continued. "I just need the people close to me that I love, that's all."

Just last week, Bieber was accused of threatening and physically assaulting a neighbor, and the case is currently under investigation.
More recently, Bieber was forced to leave his little capuchin monkey in quarantine after landing in Munich, Germany, on Thursday, March 28. The singer said that he's choosing not to let naysayers get under his skin, however.

"I know who I am and I'm very much in control," he said of dealing with rumors about his personal life. "I don't need to address every speculation. Remember when Cam'ron dissed Jay-Z? Jay-Z didn't even respond. Why didn't he respond? Because he's Jay-Z."
The teen added that in spite of his occasional outbursts online, he's also making a conscious effort not to address specific commenters on social media -- or, in his eyes, they win.
"My Twitter is really nice," he said. "I have so many fans that I rarely ever see a nasty tweet. …I see so much stuff on the Internet, sometimes I just want to go to Twitter and just go after people. But then I think twice: If someone if dissing me, I'm going to make this person way more famous by tweeting them."

Justin Bieber's Monkey Quarantined in Germany Following Customs Incident

Justin Bieber tried to monkey around in Germany, literally -- but officials are having none of it. Landing in Munich on Thursday March 28 for a concert, the 19-year-old pop superstar was forced to leave a capuchin money in quarantine after he failed to produce the the necessary papers for the animal, authorities explained on Saturday.

The "Beauty and the Beat" singer attempted to go through customs with the animal, but had to leave it at the airport following a discussion with officials customs spokesman Thomas Meister said, according to the Associated Press.

"Munich was a good time. And loud. The bus is headed to Vienna now. U coming?" Bieber tweeted after the show, although he didn't mention the monkey. Before leaving the U.S. on Wednesday, he had a brief, one-hour reunion with ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez at her L.A. home. Earlier in the week, Bieber spoke with Us Weekly exclusively about the recent spate of negative press attention he's received.

"The biggest misconception about me is that I'm a bad person," confided Bieber. "I get upset about that. I have a big heart. I want to be a good role model, but some people want me to fail."
