Kim Kardashian Made $12,600 On eBay As A Teenager, Coco Rocha’s Cool With High Street Copies and More from Lucky’s FABB Event

Lucky hosted its second Fashion and Beauty Bloggers conference yesterday in NYC, rounding up serious star power into discussion panels moderated by the mag’s editors.

Designers Diane von Furstenberg, Rebecca Minkoff, and Rachel Roy were among the speakers, as were nail polish guru Essie Weingarten, Man Repeller Leandra Medine, and Rachel Zoe’s other half Rodger Berman.

Oh, and the Kardashian sisters, the magazine’s mildly famous October cover girls, who arrived with an E! camera crew and dozens of printed release forms in tow. Without further ado, some of our favorite takeaways from the day:

The Kardashians really do behave like their on-screen personalities. Khloe tacked on “work it baby!” and other outlandish comments to her sisters’ answers, making the crowd laugh whenever possible. Also like her TV persona, Khloe was the most candid and forthright, saying she loves accessories the most out of everything in her closet, because “no matter what weight [she goes] go up to”, her “bags and shoes always fit”. Amen.

Kim Kardashian is a former eBay queen. But she wasn’t just spending dad’s money on auctions; instead, she was raking in cash by selling hard-to-find items at a hefty premium, like those Manolo Blahnik x Timberland boots (remember them?). After begging her dad to loan her the necessary cash to buy out a store’s remaining supply of the iconic shoe, she sold all seven pairs, originally $700, for $2500 each. Which means she was able to pay back that loan–and the 10% interest her dad charged after 30 days– in spades.

Diane von Furstenberg’s advice for a successful, happy life? Have children. While Diane’s first piece of advice was that the “most important relationship you have is with yourself,” her next piece of advice was that “all women should have children”. “That’s number two,” she said. Diane’s imperative might not be as universally appealing as her wrap dresses, but hey, the woman’s got a pronounced point of view, and we respect her candor.

Coco Rocha supports designer knockoffs. “Thank god for H&M, Macy’s, Zara, ” said the supermodel, arguing for mass market brands copying designer goods, since it makes high fashion concepts affordable . “Copying is the highest form of flattery,” she shrugged. We bet some of Rocha’s employers don’t share the same nonchalance– like the Proenza Schouler boys, who find copyright infringement more harmful to business than, say, flattering.

Apart from surprising sound bites, all the panelists had some very real advice to offer to the bloggers in the audience. Almost everyone (even the Kardashians) stressed the importance of being “authentic”, as well as parsing out a specific, niche voice behind a blog to make it stand out. All in all, Lucky‘s panels teemed with seriously inspiring, motivational stories. And no, not just on how and why to revisit your ebay account–although, yes, that too. Thanks Kim.
