Marion Cotillard Drops By “The Daily Show”

Posted Friday September 9, 2011 8:44 AM GMT

Taking care of some media duties, Marion Cotillard was spotted arriving at “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” yesterday (September 8).

The “Big Fish” babe looked beautiful in a cleavage-baring plaid summer dress as she smiled for shutterbugs on her way into the studio.

Marion has been busy promoting her new film “Contagion,” as well as working on “The Dark Knight Rises” as of late.

Regarding her “Dark Knight” role, Miranda Tate, Marion told press, “Well, actually, it was not based off of a character in the comic,” despite the fact that many fans believe it’s just another name for Talia al Ghul.

Enjoy the pictures of Marion Cotillard visiting "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" (September 8).

Daily Mail fail: Samantha Cameron and Gwyneth Paltrow Photoshopped together - Asylum.co.uk

daily mail grabTake a good look at this article from the celebrity gossip section of the Daily Mail website. What do you see?

Why, it's Prime Minister David Cameron's wife Samantha posing with Hollywood A-lister Gwyneth Paltrow of course!

There they are together, 'stealing the spotlight' at a Vogue fashion event, 'taking the reins' in their 'simple' outfits.

How nice! For us, it really injects old Sam Cam -- hell, the Prime Minister and his entire Conservative party for that matter -- with an impressive dose of glamour. After all, Gwyneth is an uber-celeb of impeccable standing. She's mates with Beyonce for heaven's sake.

Yup. There they are together. Gwyneth, 'shining in her classic black jumpsuit and small brown satchel', and the Prime Minister's wife, resplendent in a 'green shirt dress accessorised with a brown belt and matching shoes'.
Except... wait a minute... what's this?!

daily mail grab

Scroll down a little, and beneath the picture of Sam Cam and Paltrow hanging out is Gwyneth again, looking, well... kind of similar...

Could it be that the Shakespeare In Love star has suffered the onset of some kind of living rigamortis, her beautiful visage locked forever in the same polite grin?

Or could it be that somewhere, some crafty Photoshopping has been going on?

We're no experts on showbiz gossip or editing photographs here at Asylum, but we did put the case to AOL's Picture Editor Andrew Webb, who duly investigated the matter for us.

Sure enough, he concluded it was a cut and paste job.

"It's quite a piece of work," he admitted

"But you can spot the mistakes, look at the way the pavement kinks, and of course the rather school boy error of including one of the original pictures in the article."

So it appears what the Daily Mail did was take the two photos below...

And just, well, stuck them together.

Now we know, we know. The world of celebrity gossip is a glossy mirage anyway. Who cares if two famous people who were probably at the same event at the same time and might have spoken to each other are plonked together for the convenience of a journalist?

Well, the Press Complaints Commisssion might if their guidelines are anything to go by:

i) The Press must take care not to publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted information, including pictures.

Oh -- and the chairman of PCC's Editors' Code of Practice Committee? That'll be Paul Dacre, the editor of the Daily Mail.

Which might explain why the Mail have taken this down... but not before we captured it here for your delectation, of course...

Twitter: 3.5bn malicious tweets distribute spam and viruses daily - Daily Mail

By Rob Waugh

Last updated at 2:46 PM on 7th September 2011

Twitter: are your friends who they seem? Twitter: are your friends who they seem?

Twitter is THE online destination to keep up with everything from celebrity gossip to what your friends have for breakfast - and your 'follower count' (how many people listen to your Tweets) is an index of social success online. But are your followers all they seem?

Not necessarily, say computer experts - some may be spammers, who hope you'll follow them back out of courtesy, and then may attempt to spam you, or even infect your computer with viruses. Average users may receive up to 17 'dangerous' Tweets per day.

The habit of Twitterers of sending 'shortened' internet links makes the service particularly dangerous for computer users - hence new software released this week aimed to defend against spammers and other cyber-criminals using the service.

What may look like a link to a hilarious news story might turn out to download software that turns your PC into a 'zombie' computer, remote-controlled by criminals on other continents.

Catalin Cosoi, Technical Line Prep from BitDefender, who this week unveiled SafeGo software which weeds out 'unsafe' Twitterers, says, 'There are 200 million registered users on Twitter, and 200 million Tweets are sent every day, but far more are received - up to 350 billion - because each Tweet is sent to a large list of people.'

'According to our statistics, one per cent of these are malicious, containing spam, or links to sites containing viruses or other malicious software. That means that 3.5 billion nasty Tweets are sent every day. For an average user that can mean up to 17 dangerous Tweets per day.'

'Most are simply spam - many spammers monitor keywords that are trending on Twitter, then send out spam containing those words. Others do contain malicious software.'

Twitter can be used to distribute computer viruses Twitter can be used to distribute computer viruses

With Safego, suspected spammers among the list of people you 'follow' are flagged with four colours, ranging up to red for extremely suspicious - users who have sent spam or malicious links. It's easy pinpoint 'followers' who may not actually be friends, and then block them.

The service will also notify you by instant message if a new follower is suspicious: as long as you keep the software running, it will monitor your follower list.

Many recent Twitter spams target people looking for work, with links that direct them to 'work from home sites' that require a fee to join. Their credit card details are then stolen.

Indonesian cyber-criminals recently attacked Twitter users with a shortened link that appeared to lead to an image from FaceBook - but instead installed software on the victim's computer designed to steal money.

'Clicking the links redirect to a shortened Twitter URL,' said security experts Trend Micro in a blog post this week. 'Most of these Twitter users are from Indonesia. To lure users to click the URL, cybercriminals incorporated Facebook.com into the link . Since September 2 2011, approximately 600 Tweets using the same link have been posted.'

Stay Tuned: 'Same Name': Celebrities – they're just like us! - Keyser Mineral Daily News Tribune

If you've ever read a copy of US Weekly, the celebrity gossip magazine, you'll recognize that the title of this column is a play on a phrase they use in a photo feature called: STARS — THEY'RE JUST LIKE US!

The section is a collection of celebrities caught on camera doing ordinary things like grocery shopping and putting money into parking meters. While the “us” is a play on the magazine's title, it also conveys the idea that celebrities are not “others.” They are like us and we are like them and if you doubt it, the proof is right there in a picture of Matt Damon applying sunscreen and Kate Moss eating french fries. (Both examples are actual photos that appeared in the magazine's Aug. 15 issue). It's like an exercise in celebrity anthropology. We have actual evidence that we are more like this strange tribe of the famous than we thought.

A similar tone underlies the premise of “Same Name,” a series on CBS where for example, David Hasselhoff - beloved by “Bay Watch” fans and all of Germany - and David Hasselhoff - beloved by his wife and newborn son in small-town Texas - swap lives for a few days. Episodes also feature Kathy Griffin, the Emmy winning stand-up comic and Kathy Griffin the Atlanta fiberglass saleswoman, as well as Mike Tyson the dad and part-time nurse from Michigan and Mike Tyson the heavyweight champion and reformed ear-biter.

While Hasselhoff's episode is an exercise in feel-good image-making for the Hoff (he buys two commercial-size lawnmowers for the family business, first-class tickets for his namesake to fly to Germany for a show and starts a college fund for the man's baby), Tyson has more hurdles to overcome, as much is made of his ear-biting past. The wife of Mike Tyson the nurse claims she had reservations about participating because she was wary of famous Mike's past violent behavior. Similarly, after admitting that she finds famous Kathy funny but would never pay to see her because she is coarse, Kathy Griffin of Atlanta has an uneasy conversation with celebrity Kathy's gay friends as she struggles to understand their homosexuality. Both Tyson and Griffin's episodes are interesting examples of the “ours” and “yours” notion of celebrity where non-famous people feel that the famous don't necessarily share their values.

But then the participants learn lessons. The non-famous make the amazing discovery that celebrities work hard for what they have. The stars realize that family is more important than material wealth. It's a simple and gimmicky structure that's about as revealing as the fact that Matt Damon protects himself from sunburn. Still, the series deserves points for trying because even though the common ground the participants reach is cliche, they reach it. Underlying this is the significant idea that both parties remove themselves, however temporarily, from the self-appointed position of authority that allowed them to judge one another in the first place. It's a lesson we can all learn.
