California Makes History by Being First State to Ban Tanning Bed Use by Teens Under the Age of 18

Yep, you now have to be 18 years old in the state of California to fake bake, Reuters reports. California’s previous law banned the use of tanning beds for teens under the age of 14, but it was OK for 15 to 17-year-olds with a parent’s permission. Other states have varying laws regarding underage tanning, but the highest age limit that’s ever been imposed has been 16.

The AP reports that Illinois, Rhode Island, New York, and Ohio have considered similar laws, so you can expect that other states will start following suit. There’s evidence that the UV exposure you get using tanning beds can lead to malanoma (and rates are increasing in young women), so presumably that was the driving force behind the legislation. After age 18, you’re legal and responsible for your own stupid decisions (I have the tattoos to prove this logic), including whether or not you want to look like an extra from the Jersey Shore.

What’s even more eff’ed up here is that the Indoor Tanning Association is saying it will hurt their business, since five to ten percent of its customers are under 18. The AP article notes that there are more tanning salons in Los Angeles County than Starbucks or McDonald’s, which is slightly ridiculous, because isn’t LA like the sunniest place on earth?

The fake tanning spray manufacturers and marketers are surely rubbing their hands in glee anticipating this potential new market.

On her second cover, the “Countdown” singer dons a black one-piece with her hand over her bump, or rather, lack of.

The two covers makes us ask: what is up with her bump?  One day we see it, the next day we don’t!

Rihanna Shows Some Skin for Esquire Magazine

Posted Tuesday October 11, 2011 9:30 AM GMT

She’s no stranger to sultry magazine covers, and Rihanna is featured on the front of Esquire's November 2011 issue.

The “Disturbia” songstress was named Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive for the year and in her interview she discussed her traveling preferences.

“I hate going to hotels when I’m on tour. I like to stay on the bus. I can sleep, I can shower, I can just pull up right to the venue every day. I work out. I have a trainer. So, she trains me wherever, whenever. Touring messes with my metabolism, so I have to get tight.”

As for her on-the-road diet, Ri-Ri shared, “I’m very stubborn when it comes to food. I don’t like to try new things. When I came to America, there were so many different cultures and tastes. I haven’t acquired a taste for a lot of things. Like, calamari? Jay-Z had to make me eat it. We have this thing called Taste Test Tuesdays or New Flavor Fridays or Substitute Saturdays.”
