Darryn Lyons roars into the Big Brother house - Perth Now

HE'S loud, rich, colourful, brash and completely over-the-top - and now he's a Celebrity Big Brother UK housemate.

Australian paparazzo Darryn Lyons has made a grand entrance into the UK Big Brother house.

Wearing shiny gold paisley trousers, clunky boots, aviator glasses, a black silk shirt and a gold bomber jacket complete with stitched self-portrait, Lyons - 46 today - topped off his look with a streak of flaming pink hair.

The former Geelong Advertiser photographer - who founded Britain's biggest paparazzi agency, Big Pictures, in the 1990s - is in the house with some of the celebrities his agency frequently photographs.

All 11 contestants, including former train-wreck Atomic Kitten Kerry Katona, actress Tara Reid and Irish pop twins Jedward, will live together for three weeks in the luxury BB pad on the outskirts of London.

Lyons' entrance - his first words were G'Day - drew groans from detractors and giddy interest from other commentators pleased he would at least make life inside the house interesting.

Online observations so far include: "Hair like a parrot. Not one of life's wallflowers'' and "Will struggle to get public support with that OTT personality''.

"He’s immediately assumed the role of master of ceremonies which is unsurprising – he’s been trading in photos of this bunch for so long he probably feels as though he knows them all intimately,' wrote Caroline Frost on Huff Post Entertainment UK.

"Lyons’ Aussie no-nonsense attitude might prove a necessary breath of fresh air in the weeks to come, and checking out the state of his pink Mohawk if he makes it through to the latter stages could well be worth the price of admission alone.''

Lyons loves bling, multi-coloured "haute couture", polo, fast cars, money, attention and all things celebrity.

He is familiar in British households for his insider commentary on celebrity gossip and events and media issues and has himself been the subject of documentaries.

The Geelong Cats supporter told Channel 5 publicists: “I’ve had ups and downs. I did the works: sex, drugs and rock’n’roll. Then I woke up one day and said: ‘I’m over this’. Pulling myself out of that is one of my proudest moments.''

A Celebrity Big Brother win would surely be another.
