Hey, Guys: Buy a Girl You’ve Never Met a Pair of Shoes and You Can Have a Date with Her

Forget about Match.com or meeting someone in a bar. Buy your lady a pair of shoes instead, and be guaranteed a date! Winning for “weirdest press release of the day” is Chocolate Sole Lounge, who promises you will “Get a Man and Get a Gorgeous Shoe.”

First some background on the company. Chocolate Sole Lounge is a direct selling company, sort of like Tupperware or those sex toy parties. Women who have a Chocolate Sole biz have the option of having live “shoe parties” or an online shoe boutique. Start-up costs are anywhere from $299 to $1,000. The company advertises that it sells “designer shoes,” but when we checked out the site the prices range from $55 to $136 and include the likes of Vince Camuto (at the high end) and Dollhouse.

Now this is where it gets strange. According to the press release:

The first ever “Get a Man and a Gorgeous Shoe” is coming to NYC this September 2011. Designer shoes will be used as the vehicle to break the ice and bring progressive men and women together. Men will ditch their usual tactics of “flowers, dinner or drinks” and woo women by indulging in their shoe fetish instead. Men agree to personally select and buy a pair of shoes for the woman he connects with. And the special lady agrees to a meet up again, within 48 hours, wearing the shoes he bought her. It’s a practical yet unexpected way to get a woman’s attention. Carol [the owner] says, “It’s simple. We throw parties where shoes are always in the mix; the women come for the gorgeous shoes and the men come because they want to be wherever the women are.”

Is this weird and creepy, or no stranger than allowing a man to buy you dinner and a movie? Dinner and a movie are probably more expensive than these shoes, but accepting a gift from a relative stranger in return for a date seems really…prostitutional. Or something. The company didn’t return our calls or emails to get some clarification and more information.

If this sounds awesome to you, go here to sign up. They won’t disclose the exact location of the NYC-based event until you register. Please report back if you get an amazing pair of shoes and an amazing man.
