Charlotte Ronson Spring 2012: Western Girl Meets Downtown Cool

Charlotte Ronson has essentially built a career designing for her friends–which isn’t such a bad thing when you consider who we’re talking about here: Margherita Missoni, Kelly Osbourne, Joy Bryant, Whitney Port and Nicky Hilton were among the designer’s pals who came to show support at Ronson’s spring 2012 show. And that’s not even counting the Ronson bloodline, which, with Sam Ronson DJ’ing the event and Annabelle Dexter-Jones walking, was in full force.

But while the celebrities were easy to spot, the actual collection was a bit harder to pin down. Ronson opened the show with a color-blocked denim look, with a modern western-vibe–one of our favorite looks–and carried on the cowgirl theme for a few looks–including a floaty patchwork frock that we loved. However, soon we lost track of where, in terms of inspiration, the collection actually was coming from, with 90s-inspired florals, mod 60s silhouettes, a pair of punky shorts, and even a flapper-inspired gown all coming out on the runway within the span of a few minutes.

That’s not to say that we didn’t enjoy the strange mash-up of styles–there were certainly some highlights–but we feel like Ronson strayed a little too far from what she does best (denim, cool-girl frocks, and easy separates) that we left wishing we could have seen more of those highlights.
